Technical SEO Settings for Every Major E-commerce Platform

Optimizing your technical elements is fundamental for both users and Google's algorithm when seeking organic search traffic & revenue. While we have a full guide on keyword strategy, title tags and meta descriptions, this guide in particular provides a step-by-step walkthrough for finding and editing these crucial SEO components on each major e-commerce platform.

Shopify & Shopify Plus

Editing Title Tags and Meta Descriptions:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to "Online Store" and then "Pages."
  2. Click on the page you want to edit.
  3. In the 'Search engine listing preview' section, click "Edit website SEO."
  4. Modify the title tag in the 'Page title' field and the meta description in the 'Meta description' field.
  5. Click 'Save.'

Editing Open Graph Settings:Shopify does not provide native support for directly editing Open Graph settings. However, you can use apps from the Shopify App Store or manually add OG tags to your theme's HTML code.

BigCommerce

Editing Title Tags and Meta Descriptions:

  1. In your BigCommerce dashboard, navigate to 'Products' and select 'View' for the item or go to 'Storefront' and then 'Web Pages' for pages.
  2. Click on the page or product you want to edit.
  3. Under the 'Search Engine Optimization' tab, you'll find fields to edit the title tag and meta description.
  4. After editing, click 'Save.'

Editing Open Graph Settings:BigCommerce allows editing Open Graph settings through the control panel, but it might require custom fields or theme modifications. Check BigCommerce's support for specific instructions.

WooCommerce

Editing Title Tags and Meta Descriptions:

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to WooCommerce and select 'Products.'
  2. Choose the product to edit or navigate to 'Pages' for general pages.
  3. Scroll down to the 'Yoast SEO' section (assuming you have this plugin installed).
  4. Edit the snippet to change the title tag and meta description.
  5. Save your changes.

Editing Open Graph Settings:Yoast SEO allows you to edit Open Graph settings. Go to the 'Social' tab in the Yoast settings and configure your Open Graph tags.

Webflow

Editing Title Tags and Meta Descriptions:

  1. Select your site in Webflow and go to the 'Pages' panel.
  2. Click on the settings icon for the page you want to edit.
  3. Here, you can edit the title and meta description under the 'SEO Settings' section.
  4. Save and publish your changes.

Editing Open Graph Settings:In the same page settings panel, you can find the Open Graph settings. Edit the title, description, and image as needed for your content to be shared on social media.

WordPress

Editing Title Tags and Meta Descriptions:

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to 'Pages' or 'Posts' and select the one you wish to edit.
  2. If you're using an SEO plugin like Yoast, scroll down to the Yoast SEO section to edit the title tag and meta description.
  3. Update or publish your page to save changes.

Editing Open Graph Settings:Within the Yoast SEO plugin, navigate to 'Social' to access and configure your Open Graph settings, ensuring your content is optimized for social sharing.

Wix

Editing Title Tags and Meta Descriptions:

  1. From your Wix Editor, click 'Men & Pages' on the left-hand side.
  2. Select the page you want to edit and click 'SEO (Google).'
  3. Here, you can edit the title tag and meta description.
  4. Save your changes.

Editing Open Graph Settings:Wix automatically generates Open Graph data based on your page content, but you can customize it. In the SEO (Google) settings for each page, you can find and edit the Open Graph title, description, and images.

Squarespace

Editing Title Tags and Meta Descriptions:

  1. In your Squarespace dashboard, navigate to 'Marketing' and then 'SEO.'
  2. Select the page you wish to edit and enter the SEO title and description in the appropriate fields.
  3. Save your changes.

Editing Open Graph Settings:Squarespace provides an integrated approach to Open Graph settings. Go to 'Marketing' > 'SEO' and then choose the page to edit the Open Graph details, ensuring your content is engaging when shared on social platforms.
